I bet you didn’t anticipate a bunch of Adventist (or ex Adventists) commenting on this! I had a different experience growing up in the church, as the SDA schools I went to interpreted Ellen White’s health teachings as “no meat or caffeine, but tons of cheese.”
Every pot luck casserole was smothered in artery blocking cheese, and even meatballs were made of cottage cheese. I always saw it as blindly following a prophet who clearly didn’t know everything about health. I’ll never forget the shame I received for innocently stating there was nothing wrong with black pepper and mustard.
