As someone who lost my long term partner to suicide I heard all sorts of comments from people who think either thought they knew what they were talking about, or didn’t but were trying to help. So many people say suicide is selfish, as if they can put every suicide or suicide attempt in a box and think they all do it for the same reason.
My loved ones case was different, and his note explained everything. He said he was the happiest he had ever been in his life, but he got busted by the law for something big and didn’t want to give his family the shame of him being in jail for the rest of his life. He wasn’t being selfish, he honestly thought we would all be better without him and he didn’t want to put us through it.
I can only imagine what you’ve dealt with and I’m sorry you have to deal with people making assumptions about your story and saying it was selfish.
Thank you for sharing though, and it really touched my heart to hear you say you’re so happy you are here today. You might have made all the difference in someone’s life by being that walking testimony. Much luck out there!
